Bottle Taper

When labeling round bottles it is very important to inspect your bottles for tapers.

When labeling round bottles it is very important to inspect your bottles for tapers. Some people have attempted to use tapered bottles without even knowing that they were tapered. Round cosmetic jars, especially the 1oz, 2oz, and 4oz, are the bottle types that are most likely to have tapers that go unnoticed. There can be problems if you attempt to place a straight label over a taped bottle without making the necessary adjustments. The wrap machine will most likely start the label perfectly square, but it is likely to end up coving the bottle cap. Even using the taper adjustment does not give you a perfectly straight label. It will most likely end up looking like a smile, with the middle part of the label lower on the center of the bottle. When using tapered bottles you should be sure to have a taper adjustment option added to your labeling system. You will also want to have your label length as short as possible and your height as narrow as is practical. Alternatively you could have your labels specially printed and die cut to work well with a tapered bottle.

Not only to flat and oval bottles often have tapers, many even have reverse tapers. Using a squared labeling head would result in a skewed label, as the label would touch the bottom of the bottle prior to touching the top. You can fix this problem by purchasing an optional taper adjusting head which will compensate for the angle of the taper.
